Energy Equivalent Speed (EES)

EES (Energy Equivalent Speed) is a theoretical quantity used to describe the amount of deformation work done by a vehicle in a collision. EES is derived from the energy balance and is given here in [km/h]. The EES is equivalent to the collision speed of the vehicle under consideration against an undeformable, rigid barrier, in which all energy is converted into deformation work in the collision to achieve the same damage pattern. For collisions of the vehicle with pedestrians or bicycles no EES value was coded until 2020.
